Now the shovel goes into the ground

Recently, the company announced that Elise Lindeberg, Director of Security at the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom), is in place as CEO. With Lindeberg at the helm, Skygard has ambitious plans.
- In the center of Oslo, we will build what will be the Norwegian data centers of the future. The aim is to set a new standard for safety and sustainability in the industry. We have secured good partners in the construction industry and are looking forward to starting construction," says Lindeberg. With solid Norwegian owners in Hafslund, Telenor, HitecVision and Analysys Mason, the data center will be an innovative commercial building in a central location. The vision is to create a unique facility, transforming the former industrial site at Økern with gravel and hard surfaces into a sustainable, future-oriented data center. This includes an urban feel and new green areas on the site.Solid advisorsConsulting firm COWI and architectural firm A-lab will be central to the project going forward.

- "Together with Skygard and the rest of the project team, we will create a data center that, in its central location, is in tune with its surroundings and secures society-critical data in a professional and energy-efficient manner. With our background and expertise in socially critical projects, as well as experience in the implementation of large complex projects, it is extra exciting to work on projects with great social value, says Construction Director Bård Nilstad in COWI.
The architect for the project is A-lab, one of the country's largest architectural firms. The planned data center will be located at and connect to the recycling park and power center at Haraldrud, and will in many ways be an important player in the innovation area Hovinbyen. The data center will be a new energy source in an existing district heating system.Distinctive and robust building- Skygard's first data center will not be like other data centers. In the sketches, you can see how it will be a recessed and integrated part of the terrain that enables accessible green space in connection with the pedestrian and bicycle network. At the same time, the urban location has set strict requirements for safety and sustainability. The result is a distinctive and robust building that will stand out in the local area," says Jan Petter Seim, partner and project manager at A-lab.
Telenor Norway will be the anchor customer, and Skygard is already in dialog with several potential customers. The data center at Hovinbyen will be operational during the first half of 2025. It will be a co-location facility for several tenants.- "We have great ambitions for Skygard, which will become a leader in secure and sustainable data storage in Norway. The data center in Hovinbyen will be completed and ready for the first customers within 11 months," Lindeberg concludes.
