Eviny and Skygard have entered into a partnership to explore the development of data centre capacity in the Vestland region of Western Norway. The aim is to facilitate national, secure, and sustainable data centre solutions, drawing on the region's access to renewable energy, infrastructure, and expertise.
The partnership covers an early phase in which the parties will assess potential sites, technical solutions, and commercial opportunities. This includes the possible development of a data centre in Simadalen in Eidfjord municipality, where Eviny has been mapping local conditions and opportunities over time.
"Western Norway is well positioned to establish itself within the data centre industry. Through our partnership with Skygard, we want to further develop the opportunities the region offers, in close dialogue with local stakeholders and authorities," says Arne Andreas Riisnes, Group Director of New Energy and Industrial Partnerships at Eviny.
Eviny is a leading energy company headquartered in Bergen, owned by 16 municipalities in Western Norway. The company produces and distributes renewable energy and has in recent years been working to develop data centre opportunities in Vestland, including dialogue with municipalities, landowners, and relevant authorities. The partnership with Skygard will bring additional expertise in the development, commercialization, and execution of data centre projects.
Skygard has in recent years strengthened its position in the Norwegian data centre market, with a focus on secure, energy-efficient, and scalable solutions.
"We see Western Norway as an exciting region for further development of data centre capacity. The partnership with Eviny gives us access to strong regional expertise in energy and infrastructure, and a solid foundation for exploring concrete projects," says Grethe Viksaas, Chair of the Board at Skygard.
